Brown or Chocolate as it is most commonly referred to, includes all shades from the darkest chocolate to the lightest milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is a rich dark candy color that is self-colored throughout. Light chocolate is more milk chocolate, occasionally appearing with lighter shadings. Eye rims, nose, lips and foot pads are brown, never black.

True chocolate/brown cannot have black pigment or hair ANYWHERE on their body. A dog which has any black in its coat or points is not a chocolate/brown.

Chocolate

The solid variation of brown is throughout the coat. They are born solid brown all over. They can range from a lighter brown to a very dark brown. Some reddening or “sun burning” of the coat may appear in dogs that spend time outdoors.
